Even though when we needed to navigate around the Windows, it proved pretty sluggish. It disappointed us by showing continuous lag even as simple as opening up the menu took a few second lags. While opening an app or program, it took lag for a minute there too. Though, you can’t work quickly by opening up many tabs in the browser at a time. However, we have experienced very slow enactment while opening 15 Tabs at a time in the browser. So we can say that it is not a high performer like other Dell laptops that show amazingly high enactment.

In our specific Geekbench 4 performance test, Inspiron scored 6,648 points. However, its score is absolutely behind the desktop-replacement average of 15,949 points on top of Inspiron 2-in-1 (7,512) and Envy (7,747).  Though, both of these Dell laptops favours Intel Core i7-7500U processors. The Inspiron 17 5000 series is an inexpensive laptop, and indeed its design and form factor appear cheap too. The Dell Inspiron 17 5000’s top built-up of gunmetal grey plastic with the Dell emblem in silver. Though it has few bounces when you push down on it, so it’s not as robust as one can wish. Though, lifting the cover discloses a 17.3-inch 1600 x 900 screen bounded by a thick bezel. You will also find an island-type digit pad and silver plastic area. Though you’ll get an Ethernet port on the left side of the laptop, two USB 3.0 ports and an earphone jack. The power jack is also present on the side of the laptop. We often feel an image on the screen go black or quite dark by touching a few centimetres in any road. Like the Start menu and taskbar icons, most of the on-screen pictures also seemed to be trounced. Rendering to our colourimeter, the Dell Inspiron’s display can replicate 98% of the screen RGB colour range.

Though, that is a decent number for most of the laptops. But tactlessly, the splashed-out colours and meagre looking angles make the colours appear overcast to the naked eye. However, you will also find the pane quite blurrier than contenders’, at only 221 nits of brightness. However, the average luminance is 289 nits. While the Inspiron 2-in-1 displayed 246 nits, whereas the Envy was more bright at 252 nits.

The Dell Inspiron 17 5000 series specs also include its Keyboard and touchpad. But you may find a bit of disappointment here. As in our experience, we found the keys a bit hard to press. While frequently tapping on the keys, we found them squishy rather than responsive and clicky. However, the touchpad of 4.1 x 3.1 dimensions is lovely and roomy and easily reacts to Windows 10 nods.

The Dell Inspiron 17 5000 lands with a 720p webcam which does not offer an HD resolution for taking shots. Inspiron 15 takes dim, murky photos with its 720p webcam. A photo we took at our desk having our face just about enclosed in shadow. At the same time, the highlight from the lights behind us found entirely raged out. Overall the photos were quite dark as compared to HD resolution webcams of other laptops.

Our battery life test stands by for just 5 hours and 52 minutes, including non-stop internet browsing over Wi-Fi. Though it is the tendency for affordable 17-inch laptops, the average battery life is 4:22. At the same time, the Envy standby for 4:48 and the 2-in-1 suffered for 6:27. However, we love to have a battery life of 8 hours or more for actual movability on any laptop.
