Nokia X20 Review: An Efficient Big Screen Nokia Handset

Nokia X20 is an efficient handset with a big display and more upgrades than previous flagships. One of the most severely challenged market sections is the ‘top low-end’ one of inexpensive handsets with modest features. Though, this handset price sits at the borderline of the mid-range and low-end levels. The latest entries comprise Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, Moto G9 Plus, and Realme 8 Pro. However, all of these phones come with impressive features and specs. The Nokia X20 is the latest handset that fits precisely into this sector. As the high-end variant of the six latest phones that Nokia holders, HMD Global announced in April 2021.

However, the X series will be Nokia’s latest high-end one, sitting overhead its G and C lineup. The X20 is, at the time of review, the high-end variant. It’s unclear what’s befalling with the Nokia 8.3 5G in this latest setup. However, the Nokia X20 flags in some main sections relate to those above-mentioned devices. Its processor is quite a little punier, and its design also gives a bit economical handset look. It charges more slowly than other mentioned above handsets.  But still, there are few specs to go for this handset as the HMD claims that this handset will get Android updates of three years. That is more enough than we can state for many other Android handsets. Plus, the Nokia X20 comes with a lovely and big display too.

  • 5G enabled handset
  • Not a gaming phone
  • 6GB/8GB RAM

  • Android 11 with three years upgrades

While looking into the Nokia x20 specs, you will find the handset runs with quite a low-end 480 Snapdragon chipset. However, the remaining three handsets we mentioned above offer 700-series Snapdragon processors. Though coming with a low-end chipset, the phone runs relatively slow while opening up challenging games and apps. However, this is not a gaming handset due to its low power processor. Performance-wise, it’s not an epitome for other customers either.

As scrolling down, the apps menu seems just a little sluggish than on many other handsets due to irregular stammers and halts. One prospective positive spec is that the handset favors 5G connectivity.  So, the people looking for a low-cost 5 G-enabled handset should go for this. The Nokia x20 comes with Android 11 software that offers three years of system updates, according to HMD Global. Thus, you’ll undoubtedly be capable of running Android 14 on this handset. That fantastic feature of the software.

The Nokia X20 looks pretty significant, chiefly due to its big display. However, we have tested the handset with a bronze hue variant that comes with a plastic build. Though, around camera setup houses on the rear of the handset. This circular bump has turned out to be a staple for Nokia handsets, with the Zeiss emblem in the center. The fingerprint scanner is present on the unlock button on the right edge, while the volume button is present just over it. However, the scanner is present at a bit high side, so it may be challenging to reach it easily with one hand. But, the big-hands may find it easily reachable. The handset also offers a USB-C port for data transfer or charging and a 3.5mm earphone jack for wired Audio.

On the left side, there is a Google Assistant button too that someone may find irritable.  However, we don’t know either it is an IP rating handset or not.  If you’re considering a large display handset, this could be a decent option. As it comes with a 6.67-inches LCD screen, shared up by a blow-hole pattern for the forward-facing snapper. Comparatively thick bezels enclose this display. However, the display keeps a 60Hz refresh rate with a resolution of 1080 x 2400p. However, if you search for a higher-refresh-rate handset in this price tag, then the Nokia X20 isn’t for you. The LCD screen appeared pretty decent for its price; a picture on the screen was rather piercing. But, the max intensity was a bit low at 450 nits.

Cameras

  • Single front, four rear snappers
  • Rear Camera: 64MP main, 5MP ultra-wide, 2MP depth, 2MP macro lens
  • Front Camera: 32MP
  • No 4K video recording
  • Video recording at 1080p at 60fps

The Nokia X20 comes with four rear snappers, a prominent figure but not a rare one. The rear camera bump consists of a primary 64MP, 5MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro sensor, and a 2MP depth-sensing lens. However, the selfie snapper is a 32MP lens which is a good resolution for bright selfies. If you discern your handsets, you’ll see this combination is pretty the same as on the Moto G9 Plus. But it comes with a bit lower-resolution ultra-wide lens with higher-resolution selfie snapper. Pictures taken from the primary rear camera were fine, though. But we got a few issues with this camera. As the photos appear a bit over-piercing, the dynamic array keeps loads of preferred ones.

Though the Selfies seems a little improved, the similar concerns still dawdle. The Portrait mode was a little disposed to muddling our hair on top of the background. Though the phone can record video at 1080p at 60fps, it may be disappointing not to record 4K video that other handsets offer. However, there are some specific photography and shooting modes too. As here, you will get a Cinema mode, meant to reproduce the Pro videography modes that many other handsets offer. But again, it will work at a maximum resolution of 1080p. Though, we don’t predict many folks using it skillfully.

Battery

  • Battery: 4,470mAh
  • Wired charging: 18W
  • No wireless and reverse charging

The Nokia X20 comes with an average battery unit of 4,470mAh. However, that is a reasonable size for a handset at this price tag.  From our early testing, it looks sufficiently big that easily put the handset through one day of regular use. However, the charging ability is not fast like other handsets. It offers 18W wired charging, which is not faster than other handsets. However, most of the other handsets offer 33W typically and 65W super-fast charging.

Charging is relatively less imposing, though, as it confirms the charging from zero to full in some hours. However, there is something diverse that is the Nokia X20 doesn’t offer a charging block or cable in the parcel. So, therefore, you’ll have to buy your own separately. However, it seems that HMD Global is currently following the Footprints of Apple and Samsung. Intrinsically, you ought to use your USB-C charger to charge up the handset and purchase one separately if you don’t previously have one.

Conclusion

Nokia X20 is the big screen low price handset that is 5G enable too. The people looking for a cut-rate 5G handset should go for this handset. But its processor is week, so gamers should avoid this handset.
