OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G Review : A Mid-level Handset with an Eye-exploding Price

OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G is a mid-range handset with an eye-exploding cost. It looks like an attractive mid-level choice with its slim body and well-smooth specs setup. Apart from the top in class 65W fastest charging, not anything about Reno 4 Pro sticks out in the competitive market.

OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G Specs and Features

Quick Appraisal

The succeeding age group of OPPO’s mid-level Reno series is here, featured by the OPPO Reno 4 Pro. It is directing to take a luxurious design accorded with decent features at a striking mid-level price tag. The preceding gen-Reno 3 Pro had ordinary enactment, however, with the Reno 4 Pro, OPPO has done some modifications. There’s here and now a more capable CPU and the handset also comprises Super VOOC 2.0 65W fast charging technology. We adored the design of OPPO Reno 3 Pro but OPPO has developed it more with the Reno 4 Pro. It’s a thinner and light enough handset attired in metal and glass, providing it a luxurious in-hand touch. It also has a snug mode feature due to its thin contour and arched edges.

If you are small-handed you will feel no woe using and working the handset with the hands. The Reno 4 Pro comes with a 6.5-inches AMOLED display which is vivacious. It can condense intense colors and deep blacks that are easy to outlook at a varied range of looking angles. Though, it’s not the piercing display we’ve verified in case of lucidity. However, the handset develops sufficient perky at top brightness. It means you’ll face no worry looking at the display at the average to dim brightness range. It has a longer 4,000mAh battery that can standby for about a full day or a little more for regular use.  When you run out of battery, attaining back up to 100% is extremely quick. From zero to100%, it takes just 30 minutes – somewhat we first feel on OPPO find X2 pro.

The cameras in Reno 3 Pro were pretty proficient and multipurpose. In contrast, the Reno 4 Pro has two lenses and a lesser featured primary camera, that’s not bad at all. It’s a cleaner snapper practice, but we got it writhed to seizure contrast and color exactly. Frequently, snaps look worn out even with the HDR. The camera’s performance is okay in dim light. However, the devoted Night Mode develops an intense difference by adding details and brightness in darker regions for brighter photos.

Color OS 7.2 is placed on the Top-side of Android 10 here and gives various smart specs we actually like. In the case of fresh powder, the Reno 4 Pro 5G comes with the Snapdragon 765G. Though it is not the heaviest processor on the marketplace but is over and above able to handle powerful gaming. At the moment, other top-end handsets can perform the same as what the Reno 4 Pro 5G does. In this ferociously reasonable section where choices are sufficient, the Reno 4 Pro is hard to recommend due to price.

The OPPO Reno 4 Pro 5G comes with a swish design and superior feel that covers its mid-level cost label. It comes with the curvy Gorilla Glass 6 screen on the front and back and a lustrous aluminum frame. This handset has an elusive but robust feel. It is also too shrill at 7.6mm, and amusingly lighter at just 172g mass. The curvy edges at the rear side offer a trivial grip. However, we still endorse putting the hustled silicone cover on the handset as it can be greasy.

The Reno 4 Pro 5G is very snug to hold and use in the hands due to its big and slim contour. You can simply approach the considerately located power key on the right side. It is located just overhead the central point for easy approach. The volume buttons located on the left side, sited somewhat high than the power key. The bottom possesses a speaker fence, a dual-SIM tray, and a USB-C port. Contrasting its non-5G models, the Reno 4 Pro 5G lacks a headphone jack and slots for SD cards to expand space.

Display

The camera setup on the rear of the handset comes in two sections: one creating the border around the three lenses format and then the lens bulging from the border. The silicon cover gives little safety here, so you should take extra care from unintentional drops. On the front, the Reno 4 Pro 5G possesses a 6.5-inches AMOLED display with a large 20:9 feature ratio. It comes with a 1080 x 2400 pixels resolution, which relates to 402p per inch.

The display is vivacious, reducing vivid colors and deep blacks that helps to view across a wide range of angles. Though the display is not very much sharp we’ve verified in case of clearness. The handset has a very top brightness, which you’ll infrequently want as the display is seamlessly readable at normal to dim brightness. The curved display comes with thin bezels that give the handset a virtually all-screen appearance. Here is the selfie-camera pattern on the top left of the screen. The display also has a refresh rate of 90Hz, which is a comfy addition and makes scrolling smoother enough. The display possesses the in-screen fingerprint sensor too that helps to unlock the phone with fast speed and precision. You can also opt for Face unlock which is impressive and speedy too.

  • Triple Rear Camera Bump
  • 48MP Primary, 13MP telephoto lens, 12MP ultra-wide cameras
  • First-class Night mode
  • 32MP Front Facing Camera

The Reno 4 Pro 5G comes with a triple-lens setup on the rear. It comprises a 48MP f/1.7 main, a 13MP f/2.4 telephoto, and a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide snapper. It offers 5x ocular zoom and 20x cardinal zoom. Pictures were taken with the Reno 4 Pro 5G usually appear prodigious with sufficient lighting and a stable hand. The main camera can take photos up to 48MP, though it buckles down 12MP by default. Photos taken by the 48MP main camera offered more features. It also offers you photo editing software to make your photos more clear and decent.

The default 12MP photos still have good aspects but keeping AI on can enhance the unusual range of color and contrast. The ultra-wide lens aids you to cram in more of a landscape, but the quality falls in contrast. Photos are murkier with an obvious lack of color and detail. For wide scenery pictures, this isn’t a problem as turning on the HDR can increase color arrangement. However, for the closer subjects, the photos are not as crumbly. The telephoto lens comes with 20x digital zooming of images. The more you zoom in the more din and pixels arrive in a picture.

Video Recording

Photos look well up to 2x and even 5x in some situations. However, beyond that range pictures are just too coarse to be suitable. You can record videos on the handset at a resolution of 4K (30fps). Normal videos appear truly decent with the camera’s photo stabilization feature. It’s not impeccable but improved than similar spec top-end phones. For smoother enough video, you can use the Ultra Steady feature that eliminates the maximum of tremors from the video.

Night Mode and Selfie Camera

The Reno 4 Pro 5G’s camera comes with highlighted spec Night Mode. It works well to add niceties to darker regions and keep noise out. This is supposing you can hang onto your hands fixed for the 5-10 seconds to take shots in Night Mode. The photos taken by shaky hands make a murkier and low detailed effect on photos. The night shots quality also differs established on the setting and the lighting present.

On the front, here is a selfie camera of 32MP, which is similar to the OnePlus Nord camera. It takes meticulous selfies with sufficient lighting. The front camera also develops few stabilization wiles for smooth video recording while moving. It is a good camera for a blogger with having video recording ability of up to 1080p at 30fps. Here are pre-installed video editing and cutting software too. The stabilization may not be as smooth as with the rear camera but good enough for rapidly sharing on social platforms.

The Reno 4 Pro 5G comes with a Qualcomm 765G Snapdragon chipset and 12GB of RAM, keeping things peppy and receptive. With 12GB RAM, the Apps load rapidly and the browser runs faster. The handset can control multitasking and demanding games with comparative ease when compared with other mid-range top phones. We can easily play PUBG at Ultra HDR mode without any problem except for the irregular framerate fall. Other in-detail demanding games like Asphalt 9 or Shadow gun Legends run equally well with few hesitates to halt the experience. The gaming experience seems much better with a 90HZ refresh rate.

The Reno 4 Pro lacks a microSD card slot which means you cannot magnify its incorporated storage. It comes with 256GB storage which is about 235GB after system usage. Though, it could be enough for many people. The phone does not have a headphone jack, so you have to depend on the USB-C headphones for your audial needs. The speakers are present on the top and bottom of the handset. They are amply loud and good enough for watching a movie or listening to your desired songs with your friends. But for better audio, you should go for other decent phones. The Reno 4 Pro 5G obviously comes with 5G connectivity which means you are going to get the next-gen phone. It will ensure you super-fast internet speed and quicker browsing and downloading.

Battery Life

Oppo Reno 4 Pro
Source: GSMarena
  • Battery 4,000mAh that stands by a full day or more
  • 65W Fast charging
  • Does not offer wireless charging

OPPO wants you to give relief from low-battery worry, so it has added its top in class Super VOOC 2.0 charging technology of 65W. Through this tech, you can charge your phone faster enough than many other top-end phones. It takes eleven minutes to charge a 4000mAH battery from zero to 50% and takes thirty minutes to charge it completely. It can easily standby a full day with heavy or moderate use. We strapped the handset hard with nonstop social media browsing, Netflix streaming at max intensity, gaming, and Spotify in the background. With this heavy usage, we found the charging standby a full day.  Screen intensity and heavy games can drain the battery quickly. So, if you maintain them, you can enhance the battery life of the handset.

There are some energy-saving modes in settings that help you to save battery more. Super Power Saving Mode will allow you to use only 6 particular apps. Super Night-time Reserve that eats as slight as 2% battery over the night for around 8 hours. We tested the battery life by watching 90 minutes Full HD movie at max brightness with apps, three apps syncing in the background. Our completely charged Reno 4 Pro 5G unit plunged 14% battery, which’s good for a handset in this price tag. Tactlessly, it does not offer wireless charging, but the addition of very fast charging compensates for this shortcoming.
