Review in Three Minutes

Realme has captured the budget phone market in the latest months with the Realme 7 Pro, Realme 7, and now the Realme 7 5G. Despite its shared name and apparent similarities, this newest model isn’t just a tweaked take on one of its brothers. Realme7 5G is the China-only Smartphone with a higher refresh rate display and faster chipset. This delicately diverse path means that the Realme 7 5G clashes a little with the Realme 7 Pro. It’s right in some ways and worse in others.

Realme’s sophisticated design work continues here with a striking split-mirror finish that’s just ostentatiously attractive enough without straying into the flashy territory. Realme7 5G is a substantial, solid-feeling phone, too, with scarcely a clue of the plasticky cheapness that often affects the sub $300/£300 phone category. The star feature is a double-take commendable 120 Hz display. We’re used to considering such fast refresh rates on flagship smartphones, and it’s undoubtedly inspirational seeing such a spec filter down to a more reachable price point.

This choice to accentuate refresh rate means that you drop out on the benefits of AMOLED, which is a give and take we are not sure, we’d make given the alternative. There are no surprises regarding Realme 7 5G’s camera performance, for good and for bad. It takes convincingly balanced shots in good lighting, but the quality deteriorates in more challenging conditions, and the macro lens is a wastage of space.
