Realme7 5G has Bombarded the Budget Phone Market with the Headline Feature

Review in Three Minutes

Realme has captured the budget phone market in the latest months with the Realme 7 Pro, Realme 7, and now the Realme 7 5G. Despite its shared name and apparent similarities, this newest model isn’t just a tweaked take on one of its brothers. Realme7 5G is the China-only Smartphone with a higher refresh rate display and faster chipset. This delicately diverse path means that the Realme 7 5G clashes a little with the Realme 7 Pro. It’s right in some ways and worse in others.

Realme’s sophisticated design work continues here with a striking split-mirror finish that’s just ostentatiously attractive enough without straying into the flashy territory. Realme7 5G is a substantial, solid-feeling phone, too, with scarcely a clue of the plasticky cheapness that often affects the sub $300/£300 phone category. The star feature is a double-take commendable 120 Hz display. We’re used to considering such fast refresh rates on flagship smartphones, and it’s undoubtedly inspirational seeing such a spec filter down to a more reachable price point.

This choice to accentuate refresh rate means that you drop out on the benefits of AMOLED, which is a give and take we are not sure, we’d make given the alternative. There are no surprises regarding Realme 7 5G’s camera performance, for good and for bad. It takes convincingly balanced shots in good lighting, but the quality deteriorates in more challenging conditions, and the macro lens is a wastage of space.

Design of Realme 7 5G

Realme has smoothly advanced its Smartphone design language for the 7-series, with a more stylish look than prior generations. Likewise, the prior release of Realme 7 Pro and Realme 7, the Realme 7 5G, has a stylish metallic-mirror finish to the rear panel. The split effect gives two delicately various sheens, dazzling vertically on the left and horizontally on the right, and compensate for the latter’s support.

Realme 7 5G has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor stashed at the back of the power button on the right edge. Although this isn’t usually well-thought-out to be as only part of an in-display sensor, it benefits from being reliable, fast, and easy to locate. About the front, the Realme 7 5G seems to be a replica of its previous generation smartphones, with a maximum 90.5% screen-to-body ratio, noticeable chin, and a punch-hole selfie camera.

Quick Review of Design

  • Quite bulky at 195g and thickness is 9.1mm.
  • Attractive two-tone finish
  • Fast side-mounted fingerprint sensor
  • Protect the entrails from the odd splash of water.

Display of Realme 7 5G

Like the Realme 6 and Realme 7 before it, The Realme 7 5G would come out with the same 6.5-inch LCD. That contains 1080 x 2400 ‘FHD+’ resolutions, along with 405 pixels per inch. We’re a little dissatisfied that we don’t obtain the AMOLED display of the Realme 7 Pro here if we’re truthful. The LCD here is excellent, but everything is more subdued than even a basic AMOLED, and it seems a little dull in bright outdoor circumstances.

Realme 7 5G has a faster refresh rate than its prior generation that is its standout feature. It set the Realme 7 5G display in amongst a much more luxurious and esteemed group of handsets. It does sense a bit more responsive than the 90Hz display of the OnePlus Nord N10 5G, supported by a 180Hz sampling rate. But we only pass a final verdict after holding these budgeted smartphones side by side, alternating quickly between the two.

The Realme 7 5G is not slow-paced, as we shall go on to argue, but it undoubtedly lacks the essential sound to run 3D games at blazing frame rates. Web content does not always load in and react quite as piercingly as with more influential handsets, either, which reduces the impact of a high refresh rate display. Still, we are impressed that Realme has launched such a premium element into its newest budget offering.

We’d perhaps rather have the Realme 7 Pro’s 60Hz AMOLED than the Realme 7 5G’s 120Hz LCD, all things taken into account, but it’s pleasant to have the alternative.

A Camera of Realme7 5G

The Realme 7 5G would appear to ship a similar camera setup to the Realme 7.Apparently a quad-camera design. It pairs a 48 MP f/ 1.8 Samsung Galaxy S5KGM1ST sensors and an 8 MP f/2.3 119 degrees ultra-wide one. These primary sensors are then supported by a macro sensor and a black and white portrait sensor that provides depth and contrast data. Both are 2 MP. The ultra-wide camera provides adequate performance, too.

However, its shots’ familiar tone seems quite a bit less natural and crunchy than with the primary sensor, and it gets tremendously soft at the edges. Again, this is not strange in a cheaper Smartphone. We are not in preference of enthusiastic macro lenses on phones – particularly ones that are uncooperatively low-megapixel and incorporated to enhance the official lens count. While this one does admittedly facilitate much closer up shots than the primary sensor can handle, the results are so gritty as to be rendered useless.

Realme 7 night mode camera

There’s also existed a night mode that seems to be a little incompatible. On many occasions, in very dark scenes, it would flat out snub to start the 3 to 4 second exposure time compulsory to lighten things up. When it did activate, it didn’t always pay off very well for our hand movement, yet with dead-static scenes. When it starts working, night mode facilitates to lighten up a series of late-night street scenes quite effectively. But typically speaking, decent night modes go on to protect the flagship smartphones and the Google Pixel 4a. All in all, the Realme 7 5G provides a budgeted camera offering.

  • 48MP Samsung S5KGM1ST sensor gets decent results
  • 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP macro + 2MP depth sensor
